Demographics

Cherokee County is the westernmost County in North Carolina on the border with Georgia to the south and Tennessee to the west near Chattanooga.

The County is within 2 hours or less of Atlanta via US 129 or US 19; Chattanooga, Tennessee via US 74; Knoxville, Tennessee via US 129 & US 321; and Asheville, NC via US 74 & I-40. Greenville/Spartanburg, SC via US 76 & US 123 is about 2.5 hours from Cherokee County.

In addition, the Cherokee County is within two hours or less of several major interstates including I-40, I-85, I-26, and I-75 – all major US trade routes. A location in Cherokee County means that your company is within a single day’s drive to over 60% of the U.S. population and within a half-day’s drive to the major east coast seaports of Charleston, SC and Savannah, Ga.

Major Cities

With a total County population of just over 27,000, the largest cities in Cherokee County are Murphy, the County seat, with more than 1,600 residents and Andrews with a population of just under 2,000 residents.   Both towns work closely with our economic development team to provide pro-business policies and incentives for new and expanding companies.
